Marianna Calbari

Graduate of the GREEK ART THEATRE (THEATRO TECHNIS) KAROLOS KOUN DRAMA SCHOOL and of the SORBONNE UNIVERSITY (PARIS IV, SORBONNE – “Lettres modernes spécialisées”).

In Paris she has also studied acting at the «ATELIER DU THEATRE DES CINQUANTE – Andreas Voutsinas» and acting and directing at the «CHARPENTIER ART STUDIO».

As a director she has collaborated with the GREEK ART THEATRE, the NATIONAL THEATRE OF GREECE, the ATHENS AND EPIDAURUS FESTIVAL, the THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL, the MICHALIS KAKOGIANNIS FOUNDATION and other theatres and festivals in Greece and Italy.

She has directed productions of ancient drama (Euripides, Aristophanes), classical and modern repertoire (Chekhov, Moliere, Marivaux, Horvat, Genet, Mamet, Stein, Bartlett, etc.), opera (Monteverdi, Offenbach, Hendel) and modern musical works.

She has written plays: “Pastrikes†( Greek Art Theatre-Ministry of Culture, Ancient theatre of Dodoni), “Almanac” (Greek Art Theater- Eurodram 2015 award), “Biomagic” (National Theatre), “New Blood” (Argo Theatre), “One More Breath” (National Theatre), ” Gamophobia Stories ” (Greek Art Theatre), “Trains sleep at night” (Tripoli Experimental Festival), four plays for children, translations of plays (from French and English), theatrical adaptations of novels etc. that have been produced at the GREEK ART THEATER, the NATIONAL THEATRE, the N.T.N.G and other venues.

As an actress she has collaborated mainly with the GREEK ART THEATRE, the NATIONAL THEATRE OF GREECE and the TECHNOCHOROS-THEAMA GROUP.

In cinema she starred in films by: D. Athanitis, L. Rikaki, V. Raissis.

The script of the film “Blood” by D. Karanastasis was based on her play “New Blood”.

She has taught theater practice at the UNIVERSITY OF PELOPONNESE, at the MORAITI School and at the PRAXI EPTA drama school. She has also taught “Introduction to ancient drama “and “Dramatization of literary texts†at the LASKARIDIS FOUNDATION.

She has been teaching acting at the GREEK ART THEATRE (THEATRO TECHNIS) KAROLOS KOUN DRAMA SCHOOL since 2005 and melodrama at the ATHENS CONSERVATOIRE since 2015.

She is the artistic director of the GREEK ART THEATRE (THEATRO TECHNIS) KAROLOS KOUN since September 2014.
