Ilias Xirouhakis has over 27 years experience in the financial sector, having held C-suite and other senior positions across prominent credit and other financial institutions in Greece and abroad.
Currently, he is the Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF), which he joined in 2018.
At HFSF, he successfully navigated the Fund through its stewardship phase to act as an active shareholder and is now steering the Fund to its next era, the divestment phase. Prior to HFSF, he acted as the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of America / Merrill Lynch and Bawag Bank of Austria’s affiliated Zeus Recovery Fund and of Marfin Collection and Remedial Services.
He also held senior roles among others with National Bank of Greece, Interamerican Cards, Marfin Egnatia Bank, Geniki Bank, Visa International (UK) and Thomson Reuters (UK). Mr. Xirouhakis holds a BA (Honors) in Management, Business Forecasting and Microeconomics from the London Metropolitan University, an MA in Macroeconomics and an MBA in Banking and Financial Management, specialising in risk management and electronic/digital payment systems, both from the University of Exeter.
He graduated from the International Directors Banking Programme of INSEAD’s Executive Education, with focus on corporate governance of financial institutions.
