Thodoris Efstathiou

Thodoris Efstathiou is ICT Manager and Chief Information Security Officer at Equinox Maritime Ltd., a traditional Greek shipping company with a globally trading fleet of bulk carriers. With more than a decade of experience in information technology and cybersecurity, he has been instrumental in modernizing Equinox’s digital infrastructure and embedding resilience into its operations.

Thodoris holds an MSc with Distinction in Advanced Software Engineering with a minor in Cybersecurity from the University of Sheffield, as well as a BSc in Electronic Computer Systems Engineering. He is also certified by Fortinet, Cisco, ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Maritime Institute, and NSA, and is currently preparing for the CISSP certification.

At Equinox, he has spearheaded a series of transformative initiatives. These include the implementation of an immutable backup solution to protect against ransomware, the expansion of Security Operations Center capabilities with deception technologies, the deployment of Extended Detection and Response (XDR), and the adoption of Privileged Access Management (PAM) and SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM). He also oversaw a fleet-wide upgrade of servers, clusters, networks, and connectivity, ensuring standardized and secure ICT operations both ashore and at sea.

Beyond technology, Thodoris has developed a Cyber Safety Management System (Cyber SMS) aligned with IMO and DryBMS requirements, while also launching training and awareness programs that significantly improved the company’s cyber culture. His leadership has directly enhanced Equinox’s operational resilience, compliance posture, and reputation among partners, charterers, and classification societies.

A recognized thought leader, Thodoris has spoken at international conferences such as Digital Ship Athens and contributes actively to AMMITEC and other industry forums. His work reflects a commitment not only to Equinox Maritime but also to the advancement of digital resilience in the wider shipping community, positioning Greece at the forefront of maritime ICT and cybersecurity excellence.

Ο Θοδωρής Ευσταθίου είναι ICT Manager και Chief Information Security Officer της Equinox Maritime Ltd., μιας παραδοσιακής ελληνικής ναυτιλιακής εταιρείας με παγκόσμια δραστηριότητα στον χώρο των bulk carriers. Με περισσότερα από δέκα χρόνια εμπειρίας στην πληροφορική και την κυβερνοασφάλεια, έχει συμβάλει καθοριστικά στον εκσυγχρονισμό της ψηφιακής υποδομής της εταιρείας και στην ενίσχυση της ανθεκτικότητάς της απέναντι στις προκλήσεις της σύγχρονης ναυτιλίας.

Ο Θοδωρής είναι κάτοχος μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου (MSc with Distinction) στην Προηγμένη Μηχανική Λογισμικού με εξειδίκευση στην Κυβερνοασφάλεια από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Sheffield, καθώς και πτυχίου Μηχανικών Ηλεκτρονικών Υπολογιστικών Συστημάτων. Διαθέτει επίσης πιστοποιήσεις από Fortinet, Cisco, ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Maritime Institute και NSA, ενώ προετοιμάζεται για την απόκτηση του CISSP.

Στην Equinox ηγήθηκε σημαντικών έργων, όπως η υλοποίηση συστήματος immutable backup για προστασία από ransomware, η ενίσχυση του SOC με τεχνολογίες deception, η εφαρμογή λύσεων Extended Detection and Response (XDR), καθώς και η εισαγωγή Privileged Access Management (PAM) και SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM). Επιπλέον, επέβλεψε αλλά και συνέβαλε στην αναβάθμιση όλων των servers, clusters, δικτύων και συνδέσεων σε ολόκληρο τον στόλο, εξασφαλίζοντας ομοιογενείς και ασφαλείς ICT λειτουργίες τόσο στη στεριά όσο και στη θάλασσα.

Πέρα από την τεχνολογία, ανέπτυξε το Cyber Safety Management System (Cyber SMS) για συμμόρφωση με τις απαιτήσεις του IMO και DryBMS, ενώ εισήγαγε προγράμματα εκπαίδευσης και ευαισθητοποίησης που βελτίωσαν σημαντικά την κυβερνοκουλτούρα της εταιρείας.

Αναγνωρισμένος για την τεχνογνωσία του, έχει μιλήσει σε διεθνή συνέδρια όπως το Digital Ship Athens και συμμετέχει ενεργά στην AMMITEC και σε άλλα θεσμικά fora. Το έργο του αντικατοπτρίζει τη δέσμευσή του όχι μόνο προς την Equinox Maritime αλλά και προς τη ναυτιλιακή κοινότητα, αναδεικνύοντας την Ελλάδα στην πρώτη γραμμή της αριστείας σε ICT και κυβερνοασφάλεια.
