Sofia Maltezou

Sofia Maltezou serves as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Safe Bulkers Inc., a New York Stock Exchange–listed maritime company. She leads the Group’s global cybersecurity and digital-resilience strategy, overseeing both shore and fleet operations.

Safe Bulkers has embedded cybersecurity into its ESG and corporate governance framework, aligning digital resilience with operational safety, environmental performance, and business continuity. Sofia has played a key role in integrating ISO 27001, NIS2, and IACS UR E26/E27 standards across the company’s management systems—strengthening trust among charterers, regulators, and classification societies.

She has guided the implementation of fleet-wide network segmentation, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management, ensuring measurable progress and transparent reporting to the Board of Directors. Her work also includes the ongoing preparation for ISO 27001 certification and Cyber Class notation for newbuild and retrofit vessels, as well as the successful completion of the Rio Tinto Cybersecurity Audit 2025 with zero non-conformities.

Beyond her corporate achievements, Sofia contributes to the academic and professional community through her Master of Research (MRes) in Maritime Cyber Security at the University of Plymouth. As an active triathlete, paratriathlon guide, and offshore sailor, she exemplifies balance, resilience, and discipline in and out of the workplace.

A strong advocate for women in maritime and technology, Sofia promotes diversity, mentorship, and collaboration—helping shape a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable digital future for the global shipping industry.

Η Σοφία Μαλτέζου είναι Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) της Safe Bulkers Inc., ναυτιλιακής εταιρείας εισηγμένης στο Χρηματιστήριο της Νέας Υόρκης. Είναι υπεύθυνη για τη στρατηγική κυβερνοασφάλειας και ψηφιακής ανθεκτικότητας του Ομίλου, τόσο στα γραφεία όσο και στον στόλο.

Η κυβερνοασφάλεια εντάχθηκε στο πλαίσιο ESG και εταιρικής διακυβέρνησης της Safe Bulkers, ενισχύοντας τη διαφάνεια, τη διαχείριση κινδύνων και την επιχειρησιακή συνέχεια. Έχει συμβάλει καθοριστικά στην υιοθέτηση των προτύπων ISO 27001, NIS2 και IACS UR E26/E27, ενδυναμώνοντας την εμπιστοσύνη των ναυλωτών, νηογνωμόνων και ρυθμιστικών αρχών.

Οδήγησε την υλοποίηση προγραμμάτων κυβερνοασφάλειας σε πλοία και γραφεία, μετρήσιμη μείωση ευπαθειών και συστηματική αναφορά αποτελεσμάτων στο Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο. Περιλαμβάνονται η προετοιμασία για πιστοποίηση ISO 27001, η διαδικασία Cyber Class notation για νέα και υπάρχοντα πλοία, καθώς και η επιτυχής ολοκλήρωση του ελέγχου κυβερνοασφάλειας Rio Tinto 2025 χωρίς αποτελεσμάτα – μη συμμόρφωσης.

Παράλληλα, συνεχίζει ακαδημαϊκή έρευνα στο University of Plymouth (MRes in Maritime Cyber Security), ενώ ως τριαθλήτρια, συνοδός παρατριαθλητών και ιστιοπλόος ανοιχτής θαλάσσης εκφράζει στην πράξη αξίες όπως αντοχή, ομαδικότητα και πειθαρχία.

Υποστηρίζει ενεργά τη συμμετοχή των γυναικών στην κυβερνοασφάλεια και τη ναυτιλία, προωθώντας τη διαφορετικότητα και τη συμπερίληψη, και συμβάλλει στη διαμόρφωση ενός πιο ασφαλούς και βιώσιμου ψηφιακού μέλλοντος για τη διεθνή ναυτιλιακή κοινότητα.
